Alberta Express Entry Stream is a dedicated pathway within Alberta's economic immigration framework. This page should be read together with the current provincial program instructions and federal permanent-residence requirements.
Alberta Express Entry Stream , Detailed Guide
Use the headings below to review the key requirements for this pathway.
Program Overview
For eligible federal Express Entry candidates selected according to Alberta's economic, sector and occupational priorities. Dedicated pathways include health care, accelerated tech and law enforcement. Alberta uses the Worker Expression of Interest system for worker-stream selection; candidates may be invited according to their EOI information, pathway requirements, labour-market priorities and available nomination spaces. Maintaining an Express Entry profile or Worker EOI does not guarantee selection.
Provincial and Express Entry Eligibility
The candidate must maintain a valid federal Express Entry profile and remain eligible under at least one federal Express Entry program while also satisfying the province's nomination criteria. Provincial selection may consider employment, occupation, language, education, work experience, provincial connections and current economic priorities.
Selection and Invitation
Being in the Express Entry pool does not guarantee provincial selection. The province may conduct targeted selections or require an EOI or employer-supported process. Invitation criteria can change as labour-market priorities and nomination allocations change.
After Nomination
An Express Entry-linked provincial nomination must be accepted through the federal system. The candidate then proceeds through IRCC's permanent-residence process. IRCC retains responsibility for federal eligibility, admissibility and the final permanent-residence decision.
Documents and Evidence
A well-prepared application should document every material eligibility element rather than relying on declarations alone. Depending on the pathway, evidence can include identity and status documents, language results, education and credential assessments, employment records, job-offer and employer documents, licensing, settlement evidence, financial records and business documentation.
After Provincial Nomination
Provincial nomination is not permanent residence. The nominee must complete the applicable federal permanent-residence process with IRCC, satisfy admissibility requirements and comply with any ongoing provincial conditions. Program rules and intake procedures can change, so eligibility should be reconfirmed immediately before filing.
Express Entry, CRS and Provincial Nomination
This provincial pathway operates alongside the federal Express Entry system. Candidates should maintain federal eligibility and understand their CRS score. Where an enhanced provincial nomination is issued and accepted, 600 additional CRS points are added, but nomination is not itself permanent residence.
